Ingredients Method Notes

Ingredients

  • * 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • * 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • * 10 ounces mini marshmallows
  • * Orange food coloring optional
  • * Halloween sprinkles
  • * Candy eyes optional
  • * Halloween candies or candy melts for decorating

Method

  1. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat.
  3. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  4. If desired, mix in a few drops of orange food coloring until evenly combined.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the crispy rice cereal until fully coated.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and gently press it into an even layer.
  7. Decorate with Halloween sprinkles, candy eyes, and other festive toppings while the mixture is still warm.
  8. Allow the treats to cool and set for 30 to 60 minutes.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

* Avoid pressing the mixture too firmly into the pan to keep the treats soft and chewy.
* Grease your spatula or hands lightly to prevent sticking.
* Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
* Add melted chocolate or colored candy melts for extra Halloween flair.

Prepare the Pan

Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Set aside while you prepare the marshmallow mixture.

Melt the Butter

In a large pot over low heat, melt the butter completely. Stir occasionally to prevent it from browning.

Add the Marshmallows

Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until they are completely melted and smooth. If desired, add a few drops of orange food coloring and mix until evenly combined.

Mix in the Cereal

Remove the pot from the heat and immediately add the crispy rice cereal. Gently fold everything together until the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.

Press into the Pan

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Using a lightly greased spatula or buttered hands, gently press the mixture into an even layer. Avoid pressing too firmly to keep the treats soft and chewy.

Decorate for Halloween

While the treats are still slightly warm, add Halloween sprinkles, candy eyes, colored candy melts, or your favorite spooky decorations. Lightly press toppings into the surface so they stick.

Cool and Set

Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for 30 to 60 minutes, or until fully set and easy to slice.

Slice and Serve

Cut into squares, rectangles, or Halloween-themed shapes using cookie cutters. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
